The pandemic continues to cast a dark shadow, even if a few liberties have been restored here and there, owing to the creation of vaccines, shares Randy Wooten. However, while the world is not quite out of the woods yet, and businesses like those in Hollywood entertainment have been reshaped, both in form and practice.

The biggest thing to come about in this pandemic is online streaming. With mostly everyone being forced to keep indoors and all, it didn’t take very long for them to start needing a way to break the monotony and the new norm’s repetitive routines. People took comfort in watching films from online sources. Outlets like Netflix had a field day with bringing in tens of thousands of new subscriptions from so many people all over the world.

Business negotiations in the film industry have taken place on Zoom, with producers meeting with other contributors to discuss budgeting and other management concerns. Actors have been re-reading their lines and even doing rehearsals via FaceTime. In other more complex uses of the technology, the matching of computer images with live-action images was done smoothly over an online medium.

The dynamics on set have even changed with social distancing changing things significantly, notes Randy Wooten. One account mentions how Tom Cruise gave his staff a stern scolding because some weren’t observing social distancing rules. The actor even threatened to fire anyone who violated the rules. He never failed to preach the importance of everyone’s cooperation to keep the struggling industry going.

It seems it’s people like Cruise who truly understand that the movie industry doesn’t necessarily have to die out because it only takes a willingness to adapt to everything to keep running constantly.
